Explores some not so well known issues regarding Oracle indexes such as key differences and implications between using Unique / Non-Unique indexes to police constraints, how to index and efficiently search NULL values, when B-Tree indexes are very useful with very low cardinality columns, constraint and indexing gotcha's, how to use an index that doesn't actually exist, how to totally ignore an index that does exist, how outlier values can be disastrous with indexing strategies and how to perform indexed case insensitive searches without changing the application to use functions.

Application integration is as important as ever. However the landscape and choices are changing as the vendor environment consolidates and applications move from traditional architectures to be Service Oriented. This presentation will look at the technologies and approaches that Oracle is applying to its application portfolio and will focus particularly on Oracle’s next generation AIA (Application Integration Architecture) platform.
Saul is responsible for the Product Marketing Manager for Oracle’s Service Oriented Architecture for the Australia/NZ Region. Prior to Oracle Saul has worked for over 10 years in the middleware and related markets helping many organisations leverage technology to adapt to change.

a quick note to let you all know that the next ACTOUG Developer Half Day has been tentatively booked in for the 10th of August at the usual venue of CIT Reid.
An agenda will be circulated closer to the date.

The ACT Oracle User Group runs three half-day members days and a social gathering (e.g. Golf Day) each financial year. These events are intended to allow members to gather information about latest product suites from both oracle and related technologies as well as the experiences of both Canberra and state based organisations using these technologies. It is also an opportunity to network with the sizeable Canberra Oracle user community.
On top of these the group organises several one off courses and seminar based training at a fraction of the cost of a standard course, normally a nominal fee of $50 per day is requested.
The membership fee of $60 represents excellent value for the user community, and the ACTOUG committe has decided to notify members of the tentative schedule of events coming up.
These are:
- Half Day Members Days - August 2007, November 2007 and March 2008
- Social Event - October 2007
- Christmas Gathering - December 2007
- Training Seminar - June 2008
